How I Handle PCOS
If you’ve been following my previous blogs, or even if you haven’t, I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2018. No matter my weight, I have been prediabetic for 4 years until 2023, where I tested completely healthy. Genetically, I am predisposed to diabetes and I have always promised myself that I would do everything I could to avoid needing daily shots of insulin like most in my family.
Here are a few ways I decided to take action with my health:
I take multiple supplements depending on what my body needs.
Probiotics - key to digestive, gut, and vaginal health
Daily vitamin - enough said
Vitamin D - we’re often lacking this in our daily life
Myo & D-Chiro Inositol - this was KEY when I was experiencing a lot of PCOS symptoms, it helped me so much!
Omega-3 - this helps with inflammation & PCOS symptoms
I got active. If all you feel like doing is walking 15 minutes to start, it is better than doing NOTHING at all. You have to move your body.
I go through periods of giving up something unhealthy or that I don’t need. I’ve done breaks, fasts, and completely eliminated things out of my diet.
Coffee breaks
Alcohol breaks - or switch to tequila/vodka with lime & water.
I don’t drink soda or juice - way too much sugar!
Water, water, stay hydrated!
I’ve tried vegetarian, pescatarian, fasted from pork & red meat
Right now I’m on a carb fast - we’ll see how it goes
I Incorporate stress reducing elements into my life- be intentional. If that means spending time with family or friends, going to church, hitting up your favorite spa, letting that man go, or even going to the club. Whatever keeps your stress hormones at bay will make you feel a whole lot healthier.
I shifted my mindset from diet to lifestyle change. When I first started my health journey, I would always say “I’m on a diet”, or “I’m working out for an event”. While I do go a little harder before vacation or a big moment, the key is to realize this is a total life shift. Gone are the days we could eat a whole box of Krispy Kreme donuts and still not gain a pound or feel horrible. Your results, hard work, habits, aren’t meant to be trends.
I’d love to help you on your PCOS journey, and introduce you to the many resources that have helped me along the way. Please reach out if you have any questions.
